The Altar Server ministry is open to boys and girls who have received their First Communion, as well as teens, men, and women of all ages. Altar servers play a vital role in assisting the priest during the Eucharistic liturgy, adding to the dignity and reverence of the sacred celebration. Servers have the opportunity to attend and serve at the Saturday evening or Sunday morning Mass of their choice and are welcome to participate in the Christmas and Easter liturgies.
Training details:
Training for altar servers is provided at a pace that accommodates the comfort and confidence of each individual. Generally, training sessions last about one hour and are held either 75 minutes before Mass or one hour after, depending on availability. For example, Saturday evening training would begin at 3:45 PM, concluding by 4:45 PM to allow time for preparation before the 5:00 PM Mass. On Sundays, training can be arranged to start an hour after the 9:00 AM Mass, or altar servers may arrive early before the 11:00 AM Mass to combine both groups and complete training between 9:50 and 10:50 AM.
To further support new altar servers, we offer to serve with them or arrange for a more experienced altar server to accompany them for their first few Masses, ensuring they feel comfortable and confident before serving independently. Special training is also available for those who wish to assist at liturgies throughout the year, helping to enhance the reverence and solemnity of each celebration.
