MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND SHUT-INS: Hospitals in the Ottawa area have Roman Catholic Chaplains who can assist with your spiritual care needs, during hospitalization. Parishioners who are home bound and unable to attend Mass should notify the parish office to arrange a home visit.
For many years, the anointing of the sick sacrament was administered only to persons who were dying. In recent times, however, the occasions on which parishioners can receive this sacrament were changed to include illness, hospitalization for surgery or other treatment or in times of stress. There are no restrictions on the number of times this sacrament can be received.
The sacrament consists of prayers and a blessing and, in some circumstances, the anointing of the person with holy oils.
